Our Parish

Faith Formation

Adult Formation

’The Priority is Adult Formation’ as our Bishops headed their 2000 teaching. We try to put this into action!

With Heart & Minds

Over 100 people met in 16 house groups across the whole parish as we reflected on our participation in the Mass using With Heart & Minds. The accompanying In Communion with Christ leaflets were made available at the churches. We had overwhelmingly positive feedback on the experience of the small discussion groups: almost everyone mentioned appreciating the fellowship and friendship and expressed a desire for more formation. There were four main areas that people said in the feedback that they’d like the parish to address:

  • welcome both at mass and more generally;
  • the need for silence at key points in the mass;
  • suggestions about preaching and hunger for the Word of God; and
  • training and formation for ministries, particularly for communion to the sick.

We are trying, but progress is not always as evident as some would hope!

The Gift of Scripture

9 house groups met at Immaculate Heart of Mary to consider this new document from our Bishops. (Other ecumenical activities at St Anne’s delayed their groups, but several are now meeting.) Someone wrote they now realised that ’I am being drawn in to be closer to Jesus Christ through reading the Scriptures. That although our society has changed so much since the Old and the New Testaments were written, they are every bit as relevant to us today as they were in ancient times.’

Training for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

We ran 3 sessions of reflection and training for new and existing ministers in the parish which were well received. The material was also distributed to those not able to attend.

Enrichment in Faith

These talks, when scholars share the fruit of their research, have drawn about 20 to 30 people from across the deanery and include an opportunity to ask questions. We’ve been addressed by Fr. Richard Ounsworth OP on Scripture, Fr. Robert Kaggwa on Christology, Fr. James Cassidy, our Diocese’s Ecumenical Officer and Fr Chris McAneny on Prayer.

Take & Read Mark

We had 5 house groups using Adrian Graffy’s book Take & Read - The Gospel of Mark to guide and illuminate their reflections.

The Lord’s Prayer

House groups used the 6-session study of the Our Father.
