October 2020: Mission Month
October is the month dedicated to missions. In a world that urges the joyful proclamation of the Gospel, let us pray to the Lord for all those who every day find the strength and courage to accept this call. Throughout the month we will read some testimonies of missionaries who live the joy of the Gospel.
Whilst our churches have limited physical access our Parishes continue to lose a significant proportion of the Offertory giving. In order to mitigate this loss could parishioners who do not currently donate by standing order please consider setting one up via online banking?
Please include your surname and initial as the payment reference. The bank details for each parish are as follows:
Bank Name Bank Account Name Sort Code Account no
NatWest Chesham 60-06-11 46714413
NatWest Gt Missenden 60-06-11 46714472
We also understand that some parishioners would prefer to donate by telephone instead of via online banking. In response the Diocese has established Giving Tuesday. Each Tuesday between 10:00am and 4:00pm parishioners can call 01604 712065 and make a donation with their debit or credit card. You can make a one-off donation to cover your missed Sunday offerings or call each week knowing that your offering is going to your parish.
(As there is only one person taking these calls if they are already on a call when you ring please call back later or leave your contact details on the answer machine and they will get back to you.)
Thank you for your continued support of our parishes.

Baptism preparation will recommence in September via Zoom, dates to be finalised soon. Please contact the relevant parish secretary if you wish to join the preparation classes. We are planning for the Rite of Baptism to be celebrated from October 2020.
Opening of Churches
As you will be aware approval has been given to open churches for private prayer from 15 June 2020 providing it is safe to do so, and in line with the Principles established by Government. These Principles have been incorporated into Guidance from the Diocese and can be found by clicking the link here or https://www.cbcew.org.uk/wpcontent/uploads/sites/3/2020/06/Guidance-Reopening-Catholic-Churches-IndivPrayer-100620-1633.pdf.
There is much work to be done to be able to open our churches and a key requirement will be for a number of volunteers from the parish to be Stewards. Stewards must be aged between 18-70 and not from groups vulnerable to corona virus or instructed to shield themselves and must have a current DBS certificate for our churches. If you would like to find out more on volunteering to be a Steward in your parish, please contact either Keyna (email@example.com) or Sam (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Unfortunately until we have a number of trained Stewards and all the
arrangements are in place within the church to ensure social distancing and safe operation we will not be able to reopen for private prayer and our churches will remain closed. A joint parish working party has been formed to develop a detailed plan and arrangements which will provide for the safe reopening in due course and we will keep you informed of progress.
Our Lady’s, Chesham Bois, and St Joseph’s, Gerrards Cross, areopen for private prayer – please check the Our Lady’s newsletter for the opening times.
The Northampton Diocese webpage has the listings of open churches by Pastoral Area – please use this link https://northamptondiocese.org/reopening-of-ourchurch to find out more.
